Has The Xbox 360 Live Update Been Hacked Already?

by Dan Jordan

Following on from a previous post in which I told you about the latest Xbox 360 update, it appears to have a hidden feature, which seems to have slipped under the radar?

As reported from The Lost Gamer, the recent update will also allow you to transfer multiple files to the flash drive, by using the new “multi-select” option that is now available.

To make use of this feature, select your device on the Memory screen and then press Y to access the Transfer Content menu. For those of you wishing to transfer a lot of data in one go, this will make the process a lot quicker.

We are also hearing numerous reports that hackers have already gained access to the system files.

It seems that Xbox 360-system files are unreadable when using USB flash drives at the moment. Although a group of modders have bypassed the encryption of these files and are now working towards creating a program that will extract the contents to a PC desktop.

We expect Microsoft will be working on a patch to combat this.

What are your thoughts on this?

Do Surge Protectors Hurt The Xbox 360?

Some good advice to live by usually involves using a surge protector for expensive electronics. But in the case of the Xbox 360, apparently according to the troubleshooting page on Xbox.com it could even harm your gaming console.

The ‘correct’ way to plug in the Xbox 360 should be directly into the wall outlet and not into a surge protected power strip. According to a Microsoft Support representative…

“The Xbox 360 is highly sensitive to reductions in power, and even the slightest cut in power can cause things like the fans and even the DVD laser to malfunction. Surge protectors can cause this, and probably 90% of the consoles they see have all failed in 6-12 months of being plugged into a surge protector.”

Question is…

Do you choose to kill your console off slowly, by plugging it into a surge protector or take a major risk that a power surge will murder it on the spot?!
