Microsoft Declares The Xbox 360 Will Not Have A Web Browser.

by Dan Jordan

For a long time now Xbox 360 users have been wondering when or if, their gaming system would supply them with the software necessary to go online and surf the Web.

Even though it is manufactured by the top software manufacturer in the world (Microsoft), unfortunately we now know that the answer is ‘never’.

After being asked by the magazine Edge, whether the Xbox 360 would compete with the Sony PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii who both support Web browers, Xbox Product Director Aaron Greenberg has revealed that the 360 will never get a web browser, because Microsoft feel that exploring the internet on a home TV is “a poor experience”.

He explained: “No. We really believe that the web browsing experience on TV is a poor one, and the real magic is to take those web experiences and optimise them for the living room. That’s what we did with Netflix. So sure, you can go on the PS3 and go to Facebook and try to navigate, but it’s an absolute nightmare.”

Greenburg added: “No disrespect, there are things I love about the PS3, but that’s not one of them. We want the online experience to be fun and optimised for the living room and we’ll continue to add more applications to get more richness.”

There are many different opinions on the forums about this with Mark240473 commenting…

“I think if Greenburg asked 360 users if they would like a web browser, I reckon the answer would be a resounding ‘yes please’.

It isn’t a biggie, but I do find having a browser on my PS3 useful at times. I have all my fave sites (like CVG) listed and they are all just a click away.

It sounds like an excuse, rather than a reason.”
